In 2000, Cindy Leung co-founded and established a renowned IB World School in Vancouver. As a co-founder she played a vital role in the school's management and growth for over 18 years. With UNISUS, Cindy is passionate about developing an innovative independent school that nurtures the student's full potential and their curiosities.

GARY LITTLE

FOCUS: SCHOOL POLICY,  IB PROGRAM AND TEACHER RECRUITMENT

Gary Little is the first appointed Director of International Baccalaureate Educator Programs at UBC. He served for over 36 years as an educator in the Vancouver School District. Gary started his career as an English teacher and concluded as an associate superintendent responsible for over 30   schools in South Vancouver.

  • Scholarship Director of PCAHA's selection committee

  • Volunteer roles with Take-a-Hike, Dogwood 25, Stratford Hall School and Yo Bro Yo Girl Youth Initiative.

  • Vice-Chair of the International Baccalaureate Regional Council (2009-2015)
  • IB Category 1 and 2 workshop leader
  • Co-written and co-led a Category 3 workshop series entitled 'Your District, Your IB'
  • Presenter to IB Annual Regional Conferences in Montreal, Chicago and Washington, D.C.

  • Keynote speaker for the Executive Director's Forum in Rio Rico, Arizona, Career Stages in Teaching and Administration

Mr. Little resides in Vancouver and he believes the timing is right for the Okanagan to have a high-quality, globally focused International Baccalaureate school. He is proud to be part of the inaugural advisory team.

JIM MCCONNELL

FOCUS: IB CONTINUUM,  SCHOOL CERTIFICATION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

Dr. Jim McConnell received his Doctorate of Education from Simon Fraser University. Jim has spent his career advancing education through the International Baccalaureate and Independent School programs. Jim will bring his wealth of experience to UNISUS through mentorship of our senior team.

  • Deputy Head of School at Crofton House School in Vancouver (1992-00)
  • Deputy Head of School at Strathcona Tweedsmuir IB School in Calgary (1972-92)
  • Board member of the Federation of Independent Schools of BC (FISA BC)
  • Board member of the Canadian Independent Schools Association (CAIS)
  • Chair and board member of the Independent Schools Association of BC (ISABC).

Continuing Contributions:

  • Consulting with clients in North America and Asia
  • Team member of IB leaders worldwide to deliver the IB Leadership Pathway Workshops
  • Site evaluator for the IB, Ministry of Education, BC Independent School Branch
  • Under the direction of IB Global, Dr. McConnell leads research on Continuum Schools worldwide.

Dr. McConnell is a resident in Oliver and continues to consult for education institutions from around the world. Jim is excited to contribute his experience and expertise to assist UNISUS in building a strong foundation in the Okanagan.

nIGEL TOY

FOCUS: BOARDING AND ATHLETICS

Through his 45 years of involvement in education, Nigel Toy has established a considerable reputation in Asia and North America for his outstanding leadership at two globally recognized independent schools. His expertise with boarding and extra-curricular programs is an asset at UNISUS. Nigel stresses the importance of a comprehensive athletic program where strong leadership and collaborative skills are developed.

  • Head of School, St. George’s School, Vancouver, BC (1997-2010)
  • Head of School, St. Kentigern College in New Zealand (1983-1997)
  • A mentor and advisor to numerous teachers and principals to other independent schools.

Since retirement, Mr. Toy has been consulting for schools in Asia. Nigel resides in Squamish and is excited to see the beautiful campus operating and providing first class education once again. Mr. Toy is excited about the opportunity to contribute innovative ideas on our boarding and athletic programs at UNISUS

ISOBEL WILLARD

FOCUS: SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION AND IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM

Isobel Willard has 40 years of experience in teaching, administration, and curriculum design. This diverse experience continues to empower Isobel in making contributions that help schools attain long term success. Isobel’s passion for education has driven her to devote her career towards taking meaningful action to help improve education in British Columbia.

  • IB Teacher and Coordinator at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School (1984-2007)

Isobel resides in Vancouver and she is excited to support our efforts to focus on the Student Experience. This includes intellectually stimulating activities and integrating entrepreneurial experiences into our program.

DAVE MCMASTER

FOCUS: GLOBAL EDUCATION AND INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL MANAGEMENT

Dave McMaster has 30 years of experience with  Pre-K to Grade 12 schools in Canada and internationally. Dave’s experience and network with international schools around the world will provide much needed guidance and support with UNISUS’s global outreach program.

  • President and owner of Cooper Gray Inc, an international education consulting company specializing in school start ups and executive coaching.
  • Head of Education at Fairchild Canadian Academy, Hong Kong. Dave McMaster co-founded two Early Childhood Centres in Hong Kong. He was instrumental in designing the education program as well as recruiting all staff. He continues to consult with schools in Canada and Asia.
  • Head of School at Canadian International School of Hong Kong (CDNIS) (2004-14) & Principal (2002-04) CDNIS.
  • CDNIS achieved renowned results in the top 10% of IB schools worldwide and was named the top international school in Hong Kong for seven consecutive years.
  • Served as Governor and Treasurer of the Association of China and Mongolia International Schools (ACAMIS), and has presented at international conferences throughout Asia on topics including “Building Consensus through the Trial, Decision, and Implementation Stages of the IB Program”, “The Changing Profile of the ‘Most Sought after’ Universities”, “Creating a Technology-Mediated Learning Environment to Enhance Learning & Teaching in the Classroom”, and “Managing Expectations and Relations between School Boards, Heads and Development Directors.”

During his early years, Dave McMaster and his family spent many summers in the Okanagan. He believes an international school with a global focus in Summerland will serve students from BC and abroad very well. He is excited to be part of the advisory team and shares best practices to create an outstanding international school.

Ray has over fifteen years of experience in technological and project management. Within education, he has been involved with many institutions ranging from public schools and districts, independent schools, trustees and boards, to post-secondary institutions.
