Personalized Pathways: IB Diploma and the BC Dogwood Diplomas
UNISUS offers dual graduation pathways: the enriched British Columbia Dogwood Diploma and the full International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme (IBDP). Students choose the route that best aligns with their academic goals, strengths, and university aspirations.
- The Dogwood pathway is ideal for students who benefit from a flexible, regionally grounded curriculum enriched with the IB ethos. These students will learn in the same class as the IB students without taking extra IB classes or assignments.
- The IB Diploma Pathway offers an internationally recognized diploma program. Students who graduate through the IB pathway earn two diplomas: the IB Diploma and a BC Dogwood Diploma.
An ideal class size, averaging around 14 students, ensures that teachers can adapt instruction, pacing, and support to individual learning needs. This allows every student to feel both challenged and supported.
Holistic Admissions and the IDAT Assessment
Our admissions process goes beyond grades. It begins with the International Diagnostic and Admissions Test (IDAT). UNISUS was the first Canadian school to adopt IDAT, designed to assess a student’s executive functioning and learning-related behaviours, not just academics.

In senior school, the IB program continues in grades 11 and 12, and these years are known as the IBDP, or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
In these years, students streamline their classes towards their chosen pathway and also take 3 IB classes: the TOK (Theory of Knowledge), the EE (Extended Essay), and the CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).
At the same time, we integrate three foundational pillars throughout our holistic programming:
- Outdoor Education: courses and fieldwork that build resilience, leadership, and environmental stewardship
- Technology & Innovation: including STEAM, coding, 3D‑printing, robotics, and partnerships with local companies

Scholar‑Athlete and Enrichment Programs
For students with high-level athletic aspirations, our Scholar‑Athlete Academies plan for top-level sports training during the school day in their chosen sport of soccer, hockey, motorsports, or skiing. This structure enables talented athletes to excel academically without compromising their athletic pursuits.
Students not in the Scholar-Athlete program can take enrichment programs, including art, music, multi-sport, world languages, outdoor education, leadership, and entrepreneurship. These activities ensure every student can explore varied interests in a nurturing environment.
The school day was designed to dedicate three weekly afternoons to these programs. This supports our Scholars-Athletes and students in enrichment programs so that all students can pursue their passions.
