HPV Vaccinations
Public Health will be coming to UNISUS on June 13 and will be completing the Grade 6 immunizations, parents may remember the packages were sent home with all of the grade 6 students at the beginning of May.
On June 13th, we will also ask that any students in Grade 9 (who we already have consents for) and any Grade 10,11 & 12 students who would like to be immunized to come and see the Public Health Nurse on that day.
This is not mandatory for the Gr.9-12’s – it is optional as we will not call them down directly.
LAUNCH OF UNISUS ENRICHMENT PROGRAM
We are pleased to share exciting news about our 2024-25 Student Enrichment Program. The program is a key part of our efforts to foster life-long learning and to provide opportunities for students to explore new interests and chase their passions!
The UNISUS Enrichment programs are designed for K-12 students. The program will provide opportunities for students to explore different areas of interest throughout the year or dive deep into an area of interest with more focus and dedication.
-
Grades K to 5 students will experience enrichment activities seamlessly integrated into their daily learning schedule across a number of broad and balanced areas of interest. Replacing the CASE, students will engage in a dedicated hour from 3:30 to 4:30PM to further hone skills in areas of keen interest.
-
Grades 6-12 students will have an opportunity to tailor their learning into a chosen area of interest. Enrichment programs (including dedicated Academies) will be offered every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 1:40 to 4:30PM. The new schedule allocates the mornings for deep and focused learning of core subjects while the afternoons are dedicated for enrichment activities. Our current C.A.S.E. program will be replaced by this enhanced offering.
The Enrichment Programs will provide opportunities to explore or develop specialization in music, sports, technology, entrepreneurship and leadership, outdoor education, world languages and culture, academics and fine arts. These areas are intentionally chosen to offer a well-rounded education, nurturing both the academic and personal growth of each student.
***A friendly reminder to all families with students entering Grades 6-12 next year to please fill out the Enrichment Program pre-selection survey. The deadline has been extended to TODAY - Friday, June 7, 2024. We need all parents of students in these grades to please fill these in.

Celebrating This Past Week
PYP EXHIBITION
The Grade 5 PYPx (Primary Years Programme exhibition) was an inspiring showcase of inquiry, creativity, and collaboration.
Students bravely showcased their journey of exploration, delving into meaningful artforms that resonated with them and conveyed important individual messages.
In their pursuit of knowledge, students engaged with experts, conducted interviews, and created artforms that showcased their critical thinking skills and thirst for understanding.
The PYPx project this was was to showcase how art demonstrates different means of self-expression and communication throughout history. Students took that guideline and found different means of art as self expression, including projects on hockey ask art, stop motion animation, cake decorating, pop art, jazz dance, film trailers, graffiti and many other forms of art! See the grade 5 collective project timeline hanging from the stairs in the UNISUS library to see how all of the different art forms span across history. It's very interesting to look at!
There was even a flash mob dance! The girls started the flash mob with "Timber" by Kesha, the boys then took over and danced to "I Want it That Way" by the Backstreet Boys, and the flash mob continued with "Happy" by Pharrell Williams with all of the grade 5's as well as staff and teachers joining in!
Students then played an interactive piece of music with Mr. Ben in the music room that was very well done and got the parents involved!
It was an amazing performance and celebration of all of their hard work on the PYPx. Well done, grade 5's!
HA HA KIDS FEST
The K/1 class had a wonderful day exploring the Ha Ha Kids Fest in Penticton on Thursday.
The students participated in a music workshop where they collaboratively created a song from start to finish! We explored the many booths catering to all sorts of children’s interests and the weather was perfect for our picnic lunch.
The Grade 6/7 and 10 students were at the Ha Ha Kidzfest as well to volunteer with various festival activities. They engaged with the younger children all day, including helping to make bracelets, face painting, making big bubbles, dancing and getting others involved in the plethora of arts and crafts that were on offer.
They had a fantastic time while getting involved in service within our local community. We'll done to all of our students!
The UNISUS Career Fair
Last Friday, UNISUS held its first ever Career Fair which was a was a huge success!
The students really enjoyed speaking to everyone and finding out about the various fields of work that they could enter, from professionals themselves. They really learned a lot from the experience! We would like to extend a big thank you to all of our Career Fair presenters who came to the event, as well as our Career Education teachers who organized it
Track and Field Meet
Grades 6, 7 and 8 took part in the annual district track and field meet at the Pentiction oval. Building off the track and field unit, UNISUS had their best showing ever placing in several events.
