Junior School (K-Gr. 5)

A Foundation for Lifelong Learning

Education can be more than worksheets and routines; it can be exciting, creative, and full of discovery. It can spark curiosity and joy, connect learning to the real world, and give children the freedom to explore what inspires them. At UNISUS, we want our kids going outside, getting creative, and sometimes even getting a little messy, because that’s where meaningful discovery can take place.

At Unisus School, our Junior School (Kindergarten to Grade 5) is where curiosity is nurtured, confidence is built, and a lifelong love of learning begins.

We believe that every child thrives in an environment where they feel seen, heard, and valued. That’s why our class sizes are intentionally designed to be “just right”—big enough to build lasting friendships, yet small enough to ensure every student receives personalized attention.

Our students are not passive learners. They are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and explore topics that ignite their passion. Through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), learning becomes an exciting journey of inquiry, creativity, and global awareness. Lessons are interdisciplinary, meaning a math lesson might naturally evolve into an art project or an English Language Arts discussion, all connected by an overarching theme or guiding question. This approach—a core element of the IB philosophy—invites students to follow their curiosity, while teachers skillfully guide and deepen their learning within each lesson.

Learning at Unisus is also hands-on and project-based. Students are not just completing assignments; they are creating, building, and collaborating through interactive projects that allow creativity and critical thinking to flourish.

Beyond academics, we foster a warm, supportive community where students feel a strong sense of belonging. Teachers, students, and families form close-knit relationships, creating a positive school culture where every child can thrive both academically and socially.

Classroom Communities: K/1, 2/3, 4/5

At Unisus, our Junior School classrooms are organized into multi-age groupings: There is a K/1 class, a Gr. 2/3 class, and a Gr. 4/5.

This structure encourages mentorship and collaboration, as older students get to be "mentors" and guide their younger peers, and younger students are inspired by role models within their own classroom community.

Class sizes are intentionally balanced—large enough for meaningful social connections, and small enough to ensure every child receives personalized attention. This allows teachers to tailor learning to each student’s needs, fostering both academic growth and strong friendships.

Our average classroom size is 12-15 students.

Every day is filled with interactive, hands-on learning. Whether through a shared reading circle, a creative project, or a science inquiry, students learn by working together.

Enrichment is Built Into the School Day in K-Gr.5

At Unisus, education extends beyond the core classroom. Our enrichment offerings give students the opportunity to explore their passions, develop new skills, and express themselves in creative and active ways. Taught by dedicated specialists, these classes are woven into the school week to encourage creativity, curiosity, and personal growth, allowing students to try an array of new activities and uncover what excites them most.
